Break out of Web 2.0; this is most likely Web 3.0 in the making. uWorld is thinking about giving you a second life — out there on that big World Wide Web.
Here’s what the guys behind uWorld have to say about their latest attempt at a second life out on the Web:
uWorld is a Matrix-kind World with NHCI (Natural Human Computer Interaction), it provides the internet users with an environment to experience virtual living. In this matrix-kind world, internet users can have an life experience that is completely different with their real life, communication, entertainment, production, exchange, study etc. uWorld gives them an opportunity to reincarnate themselves in this fascinating virtual world, and accomplish the life goals that they’ve been dreaming of all the time.
uWorld is the next-generation natural interactive platform. The users not only can live in this fascinating matrix-kind world, but also can receive and process all types of information on the internet through the use of certain tools or methods; uWorld is a platform for creation - both the users and the other matrix creators can create their own items, rules or magic zones on the platform; uWorld is a platform for shared resources - users can share their resources with each other through this platform; uWorld is a platform for highly interactive society and economy - facilitates the formation of social circles and value chains among users and organizations.
Cut to the chase: uWorld lets you live the second life you’ve always wanted to live. (The way I see it, to most Chinese, the biggest things would have to be to get away from that all-irritating boss in the office, and to get a job that the State didn’t hand over to you “just like that”.)
uWorld is, in essence, IM, Web 2.0 and e-commerce all in one, but in 3D. The “u” aspect, in particular, is very interesting: the “u” can stand for:
• unbounded: a world without borders
• unlimited: imagine as you wish
• unified: connect with the real world
• union: a lot of communications
• you: uWorld — where it’s your community.
The pictures are extremely impressive (they even have a road sign with Beijing’s infamous 4th Ring Road of rush hour fame marked), and they have buildings, squares, and even Coke ads.
uWorld is led by Eric Ye, who has 7 years of experience at the IBM Silicon Valley Lab, and has led the IBM international R&D reserach team of 50+ members in pursuits in developing or inventing a number of leading-edge software products which had a big impact on business. Other leaders in uWorld all are from prominent game companies inside China.
Way too advanced or surreal for you? In fact, we’ve more: there are two more companies interested in granting us a second life: HiPiHi and Novoking. In this second-life biz, HiPiHi is so far the market leader, reaching (just recently) a partnership with Millions of Us (an agency specializing in virtual worlds).
uWorld’s private test will come in December 2007; private tests are already underway for Novoking.
